Printables for this week:
Parents please note: if your child is coming to school please refrain from doing the Tuesday/Thursday work at home, these assignments will be done at school. Thanks

Please note: I am following the guidelines set out by our District Superintendant, Sylvia Russel.  The activities I am offering are ‘learning opportunities’.  Please feel free to use my weekly suggestions as you see fit.

*Please note: Students are encouraged to read 15-30 minutes/day in addition to the activities outlined below.

Monday ZOOM @ 1:00

Literacy
Write 3 notes or message of kindness/appreciation to your family member(s). Hide them or leave them for your loved ones to find in an unexpected place. Example: with their toothbrush, in their shoe, under their pillow.
Spelling Week #11 - optional

Numeracy
Be an inventor!  With items found around your home, can you construct a tool that can measure 30 seconds of time?  Example – dripping water or pouring sand from one bottle to another.  OR – Find a song that takes you exactly 30 seconds to sing.  How can your song help you measure time (example – washing hands)?

Other Learning Opportunities
Surprise a neighbor or family member who doesn’t live with you to show that you care.  Example:  Make a card, bake some cookies to share, leave a heart with a kind message…spread the love J

Tuesday

Literacy

Yesterday during our Zoom we watched Kid President Has A Dream!
Re-watch this and then use the cloud template to write what Martin Luther King’s Dream was and also your own DREAM for something that will make the world a better place!   (Printables Week #10)

Numeracy
Subtract from 20. Estimate how many rolls it will take you to get to zero subtracting the number you roll with one dice.  Example: 20-3=17, 17-4=13 How many rolls did it actually take?  You need to roll the exact number to finish the round.  Need a challenge?  Start at 50 or 100! (There is a 100 chart in your planner you could use to help you with this)

Other Learning Opportunities
Search and Find – Head outside… Find, draw and describe the following:
2 structures that are man-made, 2 structures that are found in nature.  What types of loads (i.e. a solid or liquid that has weight) do these structures carry or hold. Compare and contrast how these items are similar and different.

Wednesday - ZOOM CANCELLED ***WE HAVE SCHOOL MEETINGS

Literacy
Have a conversation about a topic of your child’s choice (or you could discuss racism/inclusion/dreams for the world as we have been discussing these topics) and aim for five back and forth exchanges.  Try to avoid yes/no questions.  Try instead “Tell me more about…”, “I wonder why…?, Why do you think/feel that way?”

Numeracy
The Amazing Splitting Plant! The splitting plant grows in a special way. In the first week, it splits into two branches. In the second week, each of these two branches split into another two branches – making four branches altogether. This keeps happening every week, until at the end of the sixth week each branch grows a flower. How many flowers will the plant have? How will you keep track of the number of branches? Will a drawing or a chart help you?

Other Learning Opportunities
Do an action activity of your choice from the website Mrs. Boyes made (in useful links on our class blog)

Thursday

Special Zoom 11:00 for BOTH Div. 9 & 10 (Kayla & Neena’s Passion Projects)

Literacy
Write a list of 10 questions you would like to ask a friend.  Write your answers to these questions on the paper but don’t show/tell your friend when you talk tomorrow.

Numeracy
Magic Plant! On Friday at 9 a.m., the magic plant was 2 centimetres tall. Every twenty-four hours,
it doubled its height. How tall was it on Monday at 9 a.m.? (Remember, doubling is the same as multiplying by 2).

Other Learning Opportunities
Directed Drawings:
Unicorn
Best friends

Friday

Literacy
Call or Zoom with your friends and record his/her answers.  Once you have said goodbye, compare your answers to your friends using the Venn Diagram in Week 10 Printables.  Write your name on the top of one circle and your friend’s name on the top of the other.  Any answers that you both gave will go in the middle section where the two circles intersect.  Answers that differ go under the name of the person who gave them.  Do you and your friend have everything in common?  Is it okay if your friend has different interests than you? What is really important to you in a friend? What can you do to be an even better friend?

Numeracy
Using manipulatives, make 3 different arrays that equal 12, 15 and 20.  What is the addition equation that represents each of these?   Example: XXXXX
                                                                                             XXXXX
                                                                                             2X5=10
                                                                                             5+5=10
Other Learning Opportunities
Test your Taste Buds:  Close your eyes and hold your nose.  Your partner will choose a few mystery items from the fridge/pantry.  Once your partner gives you a little taste, describe the taste and see if you can properly identify the food item.
