Oct. 24/19

Dear Families,

Skating was a huge success - the kids did awesome!!  Thanks to Cam, Neena, Chase, Caleb, Holden, Kayla, Kate and Liam's families for helping Div. 9 out by driving, tying skates and skating with us!

Important Information and Upcoming Events...

***You may have noticed that your child has an extra book in their planner bag that has a post its on it - these are Reader's Workshop books that your child needs to practice.   They will be presenting these as a group to the class after two weeks of RW stations.
***Christmas Art Cards were sent home, if you are planning to order please return by Nov 1 but even if you are not ordering please return and we'll put it in your child's memory book.
***Halloween is this week! Your child can wear their costumes to school in the morning but please make sure they are easy to take on and off as they will still be going out for recess and lunch.  We wouldn't want a ripped costume for the big night!  There will be a parade in the gym at 8:45 and our celebration will be in the afternoon so please still send a snack and lunch that day.  A huge thanks to these families for providing treats...
Cole - fruit plate, Jaxxon - Veggie Tray,  Liam - Cheese/crackers or small sandwiches,
Neena & A.J. - sweet treats, Kate - Popcorn/chips or pretzels
***Friday is Pajama Day, we'll still have family reading and it is also hot lunch day! Remember to get your orders to Munch a Lunch by Oct. 26th.

Have a great weekend!

Div. 9 news and reminders...

The Emergency Release yesterday went quite smoothly and luckily the rain held off.  Thanks to everyone for your cooperation in coming to pick up your child, having your id and for your support for this important drill.

Skating is on Thursday, Oct. 24 but not everyone has signed up or paid for rentals.  We are still short drivers for a couple of students plus parents that have volunteered to drive need current driver's abstracts; when I checked after school today some of you that did indicate you could drive do not have your abstracts in.  Your help and support is really appreciated and needed.  We will cancel if we do not have enough drivers by Wednesday.

Please ensure that your child packs his/her planner each day.  I recommend that they put them straight into their backpacks after they read and you sign them.  The cost of the planner is$7.00 and can be paid in cash/cheque or online.

We have started our Canada unit and the students came up with some great questions and wonders about their country.  On Wednesday I sent home a Canadian flag and information sheet for your child's 'Great Canadian' presentation.  Please check the date and keep the flag somewhere safe until your child's presentation date.

Halloween is just around the corner.  Students can wear their costumes to school (no weapons please).  We will be having our Halloween celebration on Thursday, Oct. 31 in the afternoon.  Thanks in advance to the following families for volunteering to bring in these snacks...
Cole - fruit plate, Jaxxon - Veggie Tray,  Liam - Cheese/crackers or small sandwiches,
Neena & A.J. - sweet treats, Kate - Popcorn/chips or pretzels

***Please note I have now put all the snack celebrations up on this blog - under celebrations.

October 11/19

On Wednesday we had the Mobile Dairy come.  It was very interesting to meet and learn all Bella and Apple ( a baby calf).  The students had some great questions!

Spirit Wear is now available.  A notice went home this week from our PAC.  Please bring your orders on Lunch a Munch!

Just a reminder that next Thursday, Oct. 17th is our Emergency Release Drill.  Please read the  information on the portal so you understand the procedure and expectations.

Please sign up for Skating if you haven't already done so and send in the money for rental of skates and helmets.  We currently have only 10 students signed up and not enough drivers yet.  Please remember that you will need to fill out a driver's abstract (these are only valid for two years) so if unsure please check at the office.  The procedure can be done online and is quite quick.  Thank you in advance for helping out.

Your children all had fun making their turkey puppets!  I was impressed by everything they were thankful for!  Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!!  Remember Monday is a holiday.

Oct. 4/19

Wow I can't believe it is already October!  Our Terry Fox assembly on Thursday was a big success with two teachers getting their makeup put on by kindergartens,  Ms Davidson and Ms Akaster were duct-taped to the wall, Mr. Cameron getting 2 pies to the face and Mrs. Bloom had not one but two buckets of water poured on her!  Way to go Fairview raising over $3, 300.00!

Just a reminder that forest fun is on Thursdays.  We plan to go out no matter what the weather is like please ensure your children come prepared to go outside with boots, coats and also an extra set of clothes.

We are discussing different reading strategies in small groups during Reader's Workshop. Please keep your eyes open for Ways to Take Action and Solve Words  sheet in your child's planner bag (they started coming home this week and some students will get them Monday) and leave them in these bags so they will able to use these as a resource whenever reading at home.  These will be kept in the secret pouch of their new planners which they will be getting on Monday!  They have arrived - the cost of these is $7.00 and will be up on the portal soon.

Our skating field trip on Thursday, Oct. 24th is now up on the Parent Portal. Please sign up asap and send in cash if renting skates or a helmet.  Thanks!

Entertainment Books or money for these books, headphones or earbuds plus Comfort Kits need to be returned as soon as possible.

EMERGENCY RELEASE FORMS. - Several students from Div. 9 have not done these yet please follow the steps below.  * parents need to go on the portal to fill out their emergency release form with contacts who have authority to pick their children up etc… We need this information for our Drill on the 17th.

Fairview is helping the Friends in Need Food Bank.  Starting Monday we will be collecting non-perishable food to help those less fortune enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving too!  Please help out by sending in cans or boxes of food any time next week!  Thanks!

*Mrs. Pace announced today that there will be a 'pause' on bringing Pokemon cards to school.  Our class had been doing really well with them but unfortunately today one of the students Pokemon album went missing. We think it occurred when we were at the gym and everyone took a look in their backpacks but so far we've had no luck finding them.
*here are some important dates from our leadership students:

Oct-24: silent day
Oct-30: movie night
Nov-6: donut day
Nov-19: WE day
Dec 9-13: spirit week
